TIMES AUSTRALIA, MALANG – UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang (UIN Maliki Malang) held its first virtual postgraduate orientation due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The virtual orientation for the 2020-2021 batch students was held for two days, starting from Wednesday (2/9/20) to Thursday (3/9/20).

 “Although this orientation is held virtually during this pandemic, the students do not lose their enthusiasm in joining this orientation,” said the Head Committee, Dr. H. Nur Hadi, M.A.

The Rector of UIN Malang, Prof. Dr. H. Abdul Haris, M.Ag, reminded the new students to pay attention to their study period in this campus.

Meanwhile, the Director of Postgraduate Study, Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Sumbulah, M.Ag, explained that the student orientation aimed to introduce the policy of the rectorate and postgraduate study of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, related to the academic system, general administration and financial system, study program academic service, and general & academic administration service.

 “The research and autonomous study with andragogy approach developed by the postgraduate is also prepared through the academic writing and online research skill training. This aims to let the students search and choose the authoritative sources and references during the learning in this odd semester that is entirely done online. Therefore, they are also trained to get used to the e-learning method,” Umi stated.

Meanwhile, Drs. H. Basri Zein, Ph. D, the Vice Director of Postgraduate Study, stated that the students would be able to finish their study if they have passed some quality standards, such as having a good English and Arabic language skill that can be proved from the high score in TOEFL and TOAFL.

 “In addition to that, they are also required to write a scientific paper to be published in the national indexed journals or reputed international journals,” he explained.

This virtual orientation was attended by 295 students from 6 postgraduate programs (SIAI, MPI, PBA, PGMI, AS, and E-Sy) and two PhD programs (PBA and MPI).

For two days, some of the participants joined this orientation from their places, and some others joined this student orientation in the campus by following the strict safety and health protocols to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

After this orientation ended, the students would have an online enrolment session in UIN Maliki Malang, starting from 7 September 2020 to 21 December 2020. There are various applications used in this online learning to adjust to the effectivity of learning target and pay attention to the students’ condition. (*)
