TIMES AUSTRALIA, SURABAYA – Several geniuses of Universitas Kristen Petra Surabaya create a genius robot named SPERO (Support for Pandemic and Epedemic Robot) to help the medical professionals dealing with Covid-19 patients.

“There has been lots of medical professionals died for exposed by the virus from their patients. And we hope that robot could minimize the number of people exposed by Covid-19 especially in East Java,” Rector UK Petra, Prof. Dr. Ir. Djwantoro Hardjito, M.Eng said on Friday (26/6/2020).

According to Hardjito, SPERO will eliminate physical contact between the medical professionals and their patients since this robot could be controlled from a distance with remote control.  

This robot could also be a tool for the patients and medical professional to have video conference. To run this robot, you only need to plug it in to the nearest plug.  

The most amazing thing is SPERO this robot is open source so anyone could develop and copy their methods. This wonderful robot was designed by 8 Universitas Kristen Petra Surabaya lecturers and laboratory assistant only in two months.   

“It took longer than we expected since we have to finish it through this Covid-19 pandemic. And we kind of having trouble to find the right components for it,” one of a lecture at Universitas Kristen Petra Surabaya, Handy Wicaksono, S.T., M.T. Ph.D which also built SPERO said.
