TIMES AUSTRALIA, BANYUWANGI – Located at Marina Boom Beach in Banyuwangi, the new electric boat tourism offers visitors an exclusive and eco-friendly sailing experience. This modern vessel features luxurious amenities such as plush sofas, a cozy mini bedroom, and a minibar, giving tourists a taste of the high life while enjoying the serene natural surroundings.
For just a few tens of thousands of rupiah, tourists can savor breathtaking views of the deep blue sea, the silhouette of Bali Island, and the gentle sea breeze, all while cruising in comfort and style. This unique tourism initiative combines sustainability with luxury, presenting a new way to enjoy Banyuwangi’s coastal charm.
The electric boat is a provincial asset managed by a local community tourism group, exemplifying a successful collaboration between the government and the people.
"This is a great example of effective partnership between the government and the community. Thanks to East Java Provincial Government for their continuous support, and to the Banyuwangi community for their innovative efforts to boost local tourism," said Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani Azwar Anas on June 10, 2025.
With a capacity of around 15 passengers, the boat offers approximately one-hour tours around the waters near Boom Beach. Visitors can enjoy expansive views of the open sea, a chain of beaches, and the lush green landscapes of both Banyuwangi and Bali.
The standard fare is IDR 79,000 per person, with an option for private rental priced at IDR 1,299,000. During the opening period from May 21 to June 8, special promotional rates were offered at IDR 50,000 per person and IDR 750,000 for private rental.
Despite being a recent addition to Banyuwangi’s tourism scene, the electric boat has attracted significant interest. On average, it operates two trips on weekdays and up to four trips on weekends and holidays. Morning tours start at 9:00 AM, while afternoon tours begin at 4:00 PM.
True to its name, the boat is powered entirely by electricity. It charges using electricity supplied by the local power company, supplemented by solar panels installed on the boat. These solar panels contribute around 10% of the boat’s energy needs, with the remainder supplied by rechargeable batteries.
This electric boat tourism not only highlights Banyuwangi’s natural beauty but also promotes sustainable travel, making it a perfect choice for environmentally conscious tourists who seek both luxury and responsibility.
The introduction of the electric boat is also expected to create positive economic impacts for the local community. By involving local tourism groups in the operation and management of the boat, more residents gain employment opportunities and can directly benefit from the growing influx of tourists. This model encourages community empowerment while preserving the environment.
Moreover, the silent and smooth operation of the electric boat helps minimize disturbance to marine life and maintains the tranquility of the coastal area. Unlike traditional motorboats, the electric boat produces no harmful emissions or loud noise, which aligns with Banyuwangi’s commitment to eco-friendly tourism and conservation.
Looking ahead, the managementf Marina Boom Beach plans to expand the fleet and offer additional routes to further enhance visitors’ experience. They also aim to integrate educational tours that focus on marine conservation, raising awareness about the importance of protecting Banyuwangi’s rich biodiversity while enjoying its scenic beauty.
