TIMES AUSTRALIA, JAKARTA – As the peak phase of Hajj 2025 approaches, Indonesia’s Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, is urging Indonesian pilgrims to manage their physical energy wisely. He emphasized that conserving strength is essential, especially during the days in Mina, which mark the most demanding part of the pilgrimage.
The symbolic stoning ritual (jumrah) requires stamina and focus, making it crucial for pilgrims to avoid unnecessary activities. Minister Nasaruddin delivered this message during his inspection of Indonesian pilgrims’ tents in Mina..
Focus on Energy Conservation for Jumrah Ritual
Minister Nasaruddin highlighted that the time in Mina represents the spiritual and physical climax of the Hajj journey.
“While wukuf in Arafah is like a transit point, Mina is the peak. If we do not conserve our energy, we may become overwhelmed during the stoning ritual,” he said while inspecting the readiness of Indonesian pilgrims' tents in Mina on Monday (June 2, 2025).
The jumrah ritual symbolically stoning the devil is one of the most physically demanding parts of Hajj. The Minister advised pilgrims to avoid unnecessary exertion to ensure they remain strong enough to complete the core religious obligations.
“We advise pilgrims not to walk around too much or engage in non-essential movements. Save your energy for the main worship activities,” he emphasized.
Health Warnings Amid Extreme Heat
During the visit, Minister Nasaruddin also reminded pilgrims to remain vigilant about their health, especially given the extreme summer temperatures expected during Hajj 2025. He encouraged pilgrims to avoid direct sunlight during midday, use umbrellas, wet their heads regularly, and limit outdoor activities to the late afternoon or evening.
“Please avoid gathering under the scorching sun. Use your time wisely so that you remain healthy until the end of the pilgrimage,” he urged.
His appeal aligns with broader efforts by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to support Indonesian pilgrims during Hajj 2025. These include strengthening supervisory teams and assisting pilgrims in adapting to new operational schemes implemented by the Saudi government, such as murur (drive-through system in Muzdalifah) and tanazul (phased return from Mina).
Minister Nasaruddin’s proactive message reflects the Indonesian government’s serious commitment to ensuring the safety, health, and spiritual success of its pilgrims during the demanding days of Hajj 2025.
With the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia continues to play a leading role in coordinating safe and organized pilgrimages. As Hajj 2025 unfolds, discipline, health awareness, and energy management remain key factors in helping every pilgrim complete their sacred journey in the best condition possible. (*)
